BARON ROJO: (1980) Larga Vida Al Rock And Roll @256kbps

This is the debut album from one of the best and probable the most well-known metal bands from Spain and it can compare with such releases as Resistencia´s “Hecho En Venezuela” or Riff’s “Ruedas De Metal” in the fact that it’s more on the hard rock side than in the metal side. Still it’s one of those essential albums for any Spanish-speaking metalhead to own, as the two aforementioned albums too. This is the album that started a long run of releases where Baron Rojo could do no wrong.
The album has lots of fast-paced hard rock/primitive speed metal moments and also some mid-paced utter heavy riffs thrown in to make it as memorable as possible.
It starts off with pure speed metal ownage in the form of “Con Botas Sucias” which has a superb riff work and a really memorable chorus, all held tight by consistent drumming. Next is “Anda Suelto Satanas” and it’s another absolute highlight that relies on the top notch mid-paced riffage and its catchy chorus. And then at 3:00 we have a raucous and bloody scream followed by a top quality bass groove and then the song ends. The title track “Larga Vida Al Rock & Roll” is a catchy and intense fast-paced tune with lots of melodic leads and it probably features the band’s most memorable chorus ever. “Chica De La Ciudad” is a cool mid-paced number with overt catchiness, nice shredding soloing and love lyrics about a girl from the city. Then “Baron Rojo” is another enjoyable track that closes the album in a great fashion.
Then there are other songs like “Los Desertores Del Rock” or “El Presidente” which aren´t bad by any means but they are a bit of a lightweight when compared to “Con Botas Sucias” or “Anda Suelto Satanas”.
Conclusion: It features some of the best and most classic tunes from Baron Rojo and the other songs are pretty good too. --- Written by Gabometal86 on April 8th, 2005

BARON ROJO: (1982) Volumen Brutal @256kbps

This album is probably one of the best Heavy Metal records of all time... And... Yeah!! It is from the most classic spanish band. Lars Ulrich said that it was one of his top ten album (a long time ago, when he was a metalhead hehehe). Their style is pure Heavy Metal from 1981... We found some Speed Metal like "Resistiré" ("Stand Up" in the English Version, like Accept's "Fast As A Shark" or "Rapid Fire" by Priest) combined with 70's Hard Rock ballad "Dame Una Oportunidad" and powerful "pre-thrash??" riffs like "Las Flores del Mal" (Flowers Of Evil). Variety, melody, and quallity-catchy songwriting with a english production. Bruce Dickinson help them translating the lyrics for the english version.
The Musicianship is great, classic rock musicians doing a very powerful record. Excellent guitar work by De Castro Brothers (great harmonies, solos, riffs and filling... Two great classic guitar players) and great voice by Sherpa (and great bass to). If you like classic Metal, Hard Rock, NWOBHM... This is for you! --- Written by El_Serra on March 1st, 2004

BARON ROJO: (1983) Metalmorfosis @256kbps

After two incredibly heavy and historical significant albums, Baron Rojo goes to England with DJ Mariscal Romero to record their third album, called Metalmorfosis (1983). This album was released only in Spanish, but the first 1,000 copies had an extra 7-inch single with two inedited songs, “Invulnerable” and “Herencia Letal”, both very popular among the fans. On the other hand, the LP's two hit singles, “Casi Me Mato” and “El Malo” put the band at the peak of its popularity in Spain and in the rest of Europe, where they played at the Heavy Sound Festival'83 in Belgium, being co-headliners with Gary Moore.
“Casí Me Mato” starts with a weird guitar arrangement and then it bursts into heavy metal ownage right from the trenches featuring a nice and memorable chorus and cool mid-paced riff and an awesome melodic solo. “Rockero Indomable” starts with a tidy drum intro and it features one of those mid-paced riffs which began to build up the legend back in 1981 in the band’s debut album. Seriously, every time I hear one of Baron Rojo’s albums I expect one of those groundbreaking riffs. Then “El Malo” is an enjoyable and melodic five minute banger with a nice sing-along chorus and it ends in a cool speed metal fashion. “Herencia Letal” is a proof of speed metal ownage with a fast and solid vocal delivery and a catchy chorus. I picked up those four tunes to describe because those are my absolute favorite tunes on the album, but I really love all of the songs except one. “Siempre Estas Allí” is an especially galling ballad which I could never stand. The performance of the Uruguayan drummer Hermes Calabria (ex-Psiglo) makes him probably the ideal drummer for this band. He was a pioneer in Spain in the use of the double-pedal bass drum. The De Castro brothers did a fine axe job and Sherpa handed the vocals really good. Conclusion: Buy. Headbang. Enjoy. --- Written by Gabometal86 on April 9th, 2005

BARON ROJO: (1985) En Un Lugar De La Marcha @256

By the year of 1985 Baron Rojo was held in a really high status and they even played on such metal festivals as The Reading Festival with Gary Moore, iron Maiden, etc and their were a top-selling band, all their previous albums have either gone gold or platinum. Sadly, this was their last album that would enjoy those privileges, Baron Rojo had lyrics about social injustice and that’s what attracted many people to their in the early 80´s. lyrics like “Resistiré” and “El Pobre” were a strong fulcrum point for this band, the youthful and rebellious mass felt identified with those lyrics, and now in “En Un Lugar De La Marcha” those kind of lyrics were missing. On the musicianship, this album has some of Baron Rojo´s highest peaks; lots of nifty speed metal moments and overt riffing. The band wanted a change of sound, so they mixed and produced the album themselves and believe me that this is their better sounding album up to that point. This album made a few eardrums burst with songs like “Chicos Del Rock” which is a nice mid-paced tune with an anthem-like and ubber catchy chorus and showing hints of Thin Lizzy and Ted Nugent on that blazing hard rock riff but featuring really cheesy and childish lyrics about heavy rock. “Cuerdas De Acero” is a quality and melodic speed metal number featuring a semi-godly guitar work with lots of harmony leads a la Judas Priest and lyrics dedicated to the guitar and its steel strings. “Hijos De Caín” is a nice heavy ballad that starts with a tidy drum intro and it features a really lengthy and shredding solo on the break. The lyrics tell the biblical story of Cain and Abel. “Tras De Tí” is a kinda rock boogie with a southern feel to it. It’s not bad to have some lyrics dealing with the fact that you like heavy rock and all that kind of issues, but when half of your lyrics are similar to Twisted Sister’s “I Wanna Rock”, then you are somehow screwed and that’s what’s happening here. Still, those silly and cheesy lyrics really don’t harm the album but I would have rated this one higher if the lyrics were more or less similar to the ones on their previous releases. Anyhow, the musicianship is as tight as ever and that makes this a worthy album.
Conclusion: The De Castro brothers did it again; they have delivered another enjoyable slab of heavy metal with equal catchiness and speed. --- Written by Gabometal86 on April 9th, 2005
