AVALANCH (--1997--) La Llama Eterna

The Asturian band Avalanch combines heavy metal with elements of hard rock, pop and folk. Their albums are published in several European and American countries, and they mostly tour in Latin America. They have been described as one of the "leading" Spanish-language heavy metal bands. La Llama Eterna is the first studio album by the Asturian power metal band Avalanch, released in 1997. This work was later released in English under the name Eternal Flame on April 17, 2002.

TIGERTAILZ (--1990--) Bezerk

Tigertailz’s first release, 1987’s Young And Crazy, met with little critical acclaim, although their eternally loyal fans lapped it up. James departed soon afterwards in somewhat acrimonious circumstances, and went on to form St Jaimz. His replacement was Kim Hooker (ex-Rankelson) who provided vocals on the much stronger Bezerk. This release, which also featured keyboard player Thighpaulsandra, showcased Tigertailz as an equal to American acts such as Mötley Crüe in terms of penning instantly memorable, glam-rock anthems.
Continuing to develop a loyal following, particularly in Japan, the writing was nonetheless on the wall when Finchum departed in 1992. The remaining trio (Tate, Pepper and Hooker) re-emerged a year later with a new drummer (Andy Skinner) and a new band, Wazbones. After a US recording contract collapsed and Pepper left the band, Tate and Hooker reconvened in Wales to record their self-titled 1995 album with Skinner and new guitarist Cy Danhar. Jaimz and Finchum revived Tigertailz in 2003 for touring purposes. In an interesting turn of events, Hooker, Pepper and Tate then reunited to begin recording a new Tigertailz album which became Bezerk 2.0. They also won a legal battle to retain ownership of the band name. Tate lost his battle with pancreatic cancer shortly after the release of 2007’s Thrill Pistol.

TRIUMPH (--1980--) Progressions of Power

Even during the best of times, Triumph's career was defined by a never-ending power struggle between its two lead singers and primary songwriters, Rik Emmett and Gil Moore. So after taking a back seat to guitarist Emmett on the previous year's impressive Just a Game album, drummer Moore fought back to secure a slim margin of victory on 1980's Progressions of Power. One of Triumph's most consistent albums, even though it lacked for major chart-topping hits, Progressions of Power proved true to its name when launched by the absolutely relentless "I Live for the Weekend," which along with the self-explanatory "Tear the Roof Off" figured among Moore's most undeniable copyrights ever. What's more, the vocalist/drummer seemed intent on beating Emmett at his own game, submitting a pair of extremely competent singles candidates in the rousing "I Can Survive" and the laid-back, BTO-grooved "Woman in Love" (if not the less dynamic "Nature's Child"). For his part, Emmett was responsible for the memorably moody power ballad "In the Night," the gutsy album closer "Hard Road," and the regrettably Muzak-level schmaltz of "Take My Heart," as well as indulging in one of his always stunning (for the muso fans, anyway) instrumental acoustic showcases -- aptly named "Fingertalkin'." Go ahead and award the fourth round of Triumph's ongoing musical boxing match to Gil Moore then; his creative sparring with Emmett would produce several more exciting albums and years of action before they knocked each other down to the canvas, taking ever-patient producer/bassist/keyboardist/referee Mike Levine down with them. ~~ Eduardo Rivadavia, Allmusic.com

BAL SAGOTH (--1996--) Starfire Burning Upont The Ice

In 1996, Bal-Sagoth released Starfire Burning Upon the Ice-Veiled Throne of Ultima Thule, again recorded at Academy Music Studio in England. The album marked a key shift in the band's sound,[opinion]now focusing more on the composition and arrangement skills of drummer (and studio keyboard player) Jonny Maudling,[opinion] as well as the "storytelling" aspect of Byron Roberts's spoken-word vocals. Through keyboards, the band incorporated a virtual symphony orchestra as an equal fifth instrument, along with guitar, bass, drums and vocals. This new sound would be expanded and explored on all four of the band's later efforts.

JAG PANZER (--1984--) Ample Destruction

Jag Panzer is an American power metal band from Colorado Springs, Colorado. Jag Panzer came together in late 1981, being inspired by the onslaught of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. The original line-up consisted of Harry Conklin on vocals (later nicknamed the "Tyrant"), Mark Briody (who was the sole guitarist of the group in its first incarnation), John Tetley who played the bass, and Rick Hilyard as the drummer. The band was known as Tyrant in its first incarnation. They soon had to change their name, because another such named band existed in California. Ample Destruction is the first studio album released by American power metal band Jag Panzer, released in 1984. Originally released on Azra Records, a small independent label, it received poor marketing from the label, and thus became only an underground hit amongst the metal community, and was bootlegged repeatedly.

TIGERTAILZ (--1987--) Yound And Crazy

Tigertailz are a glam metal band hailing from Cardiff, Wales. They are most famous for their 1990 album, Bezerk which made the Top 40 in the UK Albums Chart and spawned the hit singles "Love Bomb Baby" and "Heaven",. The band reformed in 2005 to considerable popular acclaim. Tigertailz (originally called Stagefright) formed in 1983 after bassist Pepsi Tate and drummer Ian Welch placed an advert in the Cardiff record store, Spillers Records, looking for a guitarist. Jay Pepper answered the advert.[2] Local guitarist Phil Harling and singer Jim Dovey joined and the band began to write and record demos, although the demos were never released. The band began to get gigs and they started to amass a local following, however lead singer Jim Dovey soon left the band therefore Pepper and Tate placed an advert in the National Sounds magazine and vocalist Steevi Jaimz answered the call and joined the band. Welch left the band in 1984 and was finally replaced with Ace Finchum.

BAL SAGOTH (--1995--) A Black Moon Broods Over Lemuria

Bal-Sagoth is a symphonic black metal band from Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, formed in 1989.
Originally formed as an epic/symphonic black metal band with strong death metal elements, vocalist/lyricist Byron Roberts took the name 'Bal-Sagoth' from the Robert E. Howard short story "The Gods of Bal-Sagoth". Their first demo was recorded in 1993, and Bal-Sagoth have since released three albums on Cacophonous Records, and three with Nuclear Blast. The band entered Academy Music Studio in June 1994 and recorded their debut album, A Black Moon Broods Over Lemuria, in just two weeks. Due to label problems, the album was shelved for nearly a year, finally seeing the light of day in 1995. The album showcased more traditional black metal/death metal ideas, and fewer symphonic elements. The vocal style of Byron Roberts is also slightly different from later efforts, using more traditional death metal and black metal grunts, as well as the spoken narrative passages which would become more prevalent on subsequent albums.

HONCHO --2002-- Corporate Rock

Honcho was established in Oslo in summer 1998 . They were originally a stoner rock band, with clear influences of bands like Kyuss , Soundgarden , and other similar bands within the genre. Since 1998, they have evolved more in a broader direction. It can hardly be called stoner rock anymore, but still finds well-developed riffs, two guitars and stoner rock -influenced vocals, as fertile ground for their new songs. Important to point out that the band have stated that they have moved away from the stoner rock genre.

TRIPTYKON --2010-- Eparistera Daimones

Triptykon is a musical project of Thomas Gabriel Fischer, founding member of the pioneering heavy metal bands Hellhammer, Celtic Frost and Apollyon Sun. Fischer announced his departure from Celtic Frost in May 2008 and shortly afterwards revealed his new project would be entitled Triptykon. The name of the band is a play on the word "triptych", because Triptykon is founding member Thomas Gabriel Fischer's third project after Hellhammer and Celtic Frost. The band logo is inspired by a writing pattern used in Weimar Republic. On August 5, 2009, Triptykon issued a press release indicating the recording of their debut album, Eparistera Daimones, would commence in the middle of August and continue through November, with a release in the spring of 2010.
On December 21, 2009, Triptykon issued a new press release to reveal Prowling Death Records Ltd. entered into a licensing agreement with Century Media Records to release Eparistera Daimones on March 22, 2010.
A follow-up EP, entitled Shatter, was released on October 25, 2010. A music video for the song Shatter has also been released.
Triptykon is currently working on a new album, which is due for release in early 2014. It was announced on October 22, 2013 that the new album will be titled Melana Chasmata. On February 7, 2014, Melana Chasmata's release date was revealed as being on April 14, 2014.

DOPE --2001-- Life

After the relative success of their debut album, Dope decided to record a follow up entitled Life. Several band changes had taken place once more; Tripp Eisen was fired from the group and joined Industrial metal band Static-X, so Virus, a guitarist/producer from New York City who was originally hired for bass, replaced him on guitar in 2000. Acey Slade was moved to the position of guitar, while Sloane Jentry (who had remained friends with the band) rejoined, this time on bass. On drums, Preston Nash was replaced by Racci "Sketchy" Shay.
The two singles from Life; "Now or Never" and "Slipping Away" reached No. 28 and No. 29 on the Mainstream Rock charts respectively. The album itself reached No. 180 on the Billboard charts and No. 6 on the Top Heatseekers, which up until that point was the band's highest charting. After the album's release, Simon Dope left the group to pursue a career as a video game producer.
"Debonaire" from the first album was used in the movie The Fast and the Furious. More soundtrack work was done by Dope in 2002, as the band recorded WWE chairman Vince McMahon's theme song "No Chance (In Hell)" for the WWE Forceable Entry audio release. Dope's music had previously been used as the background theme in ECW, and Rhino also used "Debonaire" as his entrance theme.
Around this period, Edsel Dope also had a public rivalry with the band Murderdolls, particularly vocalist Wednesday 13. An early version of that group had featured Racci Shay on drums; and under the name Murderdolls, it featured Tripp Eisen. Dope guitarist Acey Slade then left the band to join Murderdolls in mid-2002.

EMMURE --2012-- Slave To The Game

Emmure is an American metalcore band formed in 2003. Originally based in New Fairfield, Connecticut, but now residing in Queens, New York, the group has a total of seven releases. With their two demos entitled Nine Eleven Zero Four and Demo 2005 they attracted the attention of This City Is Burning Records through which the band released their debut extended play The Complete Guide to Needlework.
Victory Records took notice of the band after the release of their extended play and signed them. They released their first full-length album Goodbye to the Gallows in 2007. The band has been signed to the label ever since. Their second, third and fourth albums The Respect Issue (2008), Felony (2009) and Speaker of the Dead (2011) were all distributed through Victory. VOÏVOD --1984-- War and Pain

Attention Metallica fans who still wish that Hetfield and company stuck to the no-frills metal sound laid down on their debut (1983's Kill 'Em All): you're sure to love Voivod's War and Pain as well. Some of the reasons why 1984's War and Pain sounds strikingly similar to Metallica's Kill 'Em All is because of both albums' dry production, straight-ahead metal guitar riffs and almost identical guitar sounds, and sometimes sophomoric lyrical content. Voivod latecomers should know that the group wasn't always an experimental/progressive metal band as evidenced on the later albums Nothingface and Angel Rat. The group's first classic, the song "Voivod," and is featured here and is still played by the group in concert to this day (one of the few songs that contains some contrasting textures, even if it's just for about five seconds at the beginning). Other metal delights include "Warriors of Ice," "Iron Gang," and the title track, which are all about as subtle as being hit by a sledgehammer. By listening to their debut, you can easy to see that the group built their later, highly original sound on the foundations of heavy metal. War and Pain is by no means an embarrassing debut; it's just that when compared to other albums by the group, it's apparent that the band was still trying to find their own metal approach.

WO FAT --2011-- Noche Del Chupacabra

"Noche del Chupacabra" is all about a trip into a psychedelic swamp with sweet sludgy riffness guiding you into a world where you just can't stop feeling the groove! The dark and psychedelic ambient fits perfectly with their "swampy" riffs. And the cover is more than enough to prove my point. Being all about slow, heavy and sludgy riffs, you can see that these guys try a different approach when you think about most stoner bands that just want play heavy and fast. This band, on the contrary, doesn't have fast drums, but instead, gives you a seriously slow distorted guitar with slower bass and drums and make it work! As a result, you just can't stop nodding your head to this because their sound is slow, rhythmic and catchy.
"Descent Into the Maelstrom" is the best example to describe their slow sound. Somehow, they managed to conciliate slow tempos with constant riff changes. It's simple, but unexpected!
"Bayou Juju" shows that Wo Fat can also play a groovy fast sound making it, along with "Descent into the Maelstrom", one of the top two tracks of the record.
Despite the short track-listing, "Noche del Chupacabra" will guarantee you a good headbanging time with their sludgy stoner groove. I recommend these guys if you're a fan of nice and slow stoner vibes. You get tired of most bands of the same genre, but this one likes to fight back! These guys intrigue me so, rest assured, after listening to this they will most certainly do the same to you...~~ Toxine

VOÏVOD --1983-- Anachronism, First Voïvoid Show 25/06/83, Demo Tape

Voivod (singer Denis "Snake" Belanger, guitarist Denis "Piggy" d'Amour, drummer Michel "Away" Langevin, and bassist Jean-Yves "Blacky" Theriault) were one of the first thrash bands from Canada to gain popularity outside of their home country. From their beginnings in the early '80s, their main goal was to be different from anyone else, and thus they incorporated odd musical tempos and futuristic story lines into their songs, often dealing with technology taking over the world. With their unique style of performing and writing, Voivod opened the way for other Canadian thrash and metal bands.War and Pain Such early releases as 1984's War and Pain and 1986's Rrröööaaarrr showed that the quartet was aligned with the then up-and-coming thrash metal movement (Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax), eventually letting their prog rock influences (Pink Floyd, Rush, King Crimson) seep in on 1987's Killing Technology and 1988's Dimension Hatröss. By the time of their major-label debut for MCA, 1989's Nothingface, Voivod had perfected their thrash metal/prog rock style, resulting in the most commercially successful release of their career -- spearheaded by a video for their cover of Pink Floyd's "Astronomy Domine" (which enjoyed airings on MTV's Headbangers Ball) and a headlining club tour over a pair of bands that would soon change the landscape of alt-rock by the early '90s, Soundgarden and Faith No More.~~ Greg Prato

GRAND MAGUS --2010-- Hammer of the North

Janne (guitar/vocals), Fox (bass), and Iggy (drums) began playing together as Smack in their native Stockholm circa 1996. By 1999, new drummer Trisse had joined up and a couple of well-received three-song demos convinced the band to go pro and adopt a new name in the year 2000. Their choice, Grand Magus, was actually much more fitting with their sonic identity, which consisted of both '70s hard rock and stoner rock influences (what the band likes to call doom blues) and drew the attention of Rise Above label boss Lee Dorrian. At the beginning of 2001, they entered local Das Boot Studios with Dismember drummer Fred Estby acting as producer, emerging a few weeks later with a self-titled debut that was released in 2001. Since then, Grand Magus have released four more full-lengths: Monument in 2003 (JVC); Wolf's Return in 2005 and Iron Will in 2008 (both on Candlelight); and Hammer of the North in 2010 (Roadrunner). Along the way lead vocalist Janne changed his name to the initials J.B. and also began singing for top Swedish stoner metal act Spiritual Beggars.~~ Eduardo Rivadavia, Allmusic.com

ELECTRIC MAGMA --2005-- Snail The Wah

Electric Magma formed in 2000 in the tiny hamlet known as Toronto, Canada. Emerging from the ashes of previous musical endeavors, the thunderous trio comprised of Tryg Smith , Tim Reesor and Neil Lukewich-Pheaton forged ahead with their vision of sonic eruption. Halfway up the fuzzed-out sludge ladder, somewhere in between the metal boogie rock of Clutch and the surfed-up stoner rock of Fu Manchu, lies the sound of burning liquid rock. Electrified Magma.
While many groups struggle with the concept of applying vocal melodies over their musical groove, Electric Magma opted to side-step this dilemma and simply forgo the vocals and in their place drop in double the riffs. While the lack of a singer can be a crippling obstacle for many a lesser band, it has only added fuel to their collective fire and driven their fuzzed-out riff rock into another dimension.
Notorious merch whores, Electric Magma are second only to KISS when it comes to pimping the name onto anything and everything…soup to nuts, condoms to candy bars…their merch table alone is often an event unto itself, representing a bigger spread than Grandma’s baked goods table at the local church bazaar.

They have been popular in Germany and France label, and have worked with some well-known producers including Florida death metal kingpin Tom Morris, but they have not really developed much of a following in the U.S. No Return has released several albums over the years, beginning with 1990's Psychological Torment (Semetary Records), followed by the Morris-produced Contamination Rises (1992), Seasons of Soul (1995), and the Red Embers EP (1997). In the late '90s, No Return made a few lineup changes, bringing in a new vocalist (Steeve "Zuul" Petit), a second guitarist (Benoit Antonia), and a keyboardist (Malko Pouchin). The first album with this new lineup was 2000's Self-Mutilation, which came out on the French Kodiac Records. After moving on to the Nuclear Blast label following this album, No Return finally had its first U.S. release with 2002's futuristic, cyber-themed concept album Machinery. By this stage, the band's lineup had settled on the quintet of vocalist Petit, bassist/guitarist Antonia, keyboardist/sampler Malko Pouchin, drummer Didier le Baron, and guitarist Alain "Ali" Clement. ~~ William York, Allmusic.com
