SOULFLY: (2002) 3

Better than their overrated debut and the disappointing "Primitive", Soulfly's third album, appropriately titled "3", is their best effort yet. The rhythm section sounds tighter than ever before, and Max Cavalera hasn't sounded this good since his Sepultura days. The only real flaw with "3" is the same flaw that Soulfly has had since their inception; the music gets repetitive, but thankfully Max and co. have ditched the whole rap/rock thing and are going for straight ahead metal that is very reminiscent of later Sepultura. Standout tracks include "Seek & Strike", "Enter Faith", "One", and the touching "9/11/01" which is a one minute long track that is completely silent as a tribute to those who lost their lives on that fateful day. All in all, "3" is Soulfly's heaviest and best album to date, but there must be better things to come from Max and crew.
